New Feature Alert! New Feature Alert!
I originally imagined "SoPros on SoCo" (Sobriety Profiles on The Sobriety Collective) but realized that so many of you are in recovery from not just alcohol (or drugs) but mental health issues too. So I've re-branded without you even knowing:
Recovery Profiles aka RePros on TSC (no rhyme there, but what the hell).
Without further ado, I'm proud to have Ms. Lotta Dann as our very first Re(Pro) below! *rhyme*
Name: Lotta Dann aka Mrs. D.
Location: Wellington, New Zealand
Sobriety date: 6 September, 2011
Creative niche (art, music, writing, entrepreneurship, etc.): Writing and website management
Drug of choice (or not of choice...): Alcohol. Mostly wine. Mostly red.
Recovery story in a nutshell:
I drank steadily and heavily from the age of 15 to the age of 39. I managed to run a successful life while simultaneously sinking a lot of alcohol at every opportunity. Towards the end of my boozing career my drinking became a big problem - heavier and sloppier and harder to control. I slowly realised it was impossible for me to moderate my intake, and also that my problem was steadily worsening. After hiding an empty bottle of wine from my husband one night to conceal how much I had been drinking I realised the only way I could manage alcohol was to take it away completely. I thought I was breaking a nasty little habit and once I did that life would continue on as normal. I was wrong. The process of getting sober was entirely unexpected, incredibly revelatory, and although hard bloody work at times, hugely rewarding.
How you stay sober (program, self-care, therapy, etc.):
I stay sober by externalising all of my thoughts and feelings in a blog, and through the power of the warmth, wisdom, understanding, empathy, and kindness that flows around the online recovery community.
